Tonight we had the Nelsons over for some family fun and continued the kitchen concoctions!
Every year, we have gotten together with Candace & David to swap gifts. Then they had a kid, then another, then we had one, etc. etc. and now there is 5 kids between us. So this year we decided to save our money & time, opting not to buy gifts and just get together for a little creative play. We made rice krispies and let the kids run wild with their imagination (and candy!). We had plans to make cookies and brownies but got pretty involved in decorating our snowmen that we let time fly and never got around to actually turning the oven on. It was a lot of fun and a good lesson that some of the best presents don’t have a price tag—just spending good time with great friends was the best gift!
*Recipe for Kid’s Rice Krispies Fun*
prep: need assorted candy for decorating, Rice Krispies cereal, marshmallows & butter.
step 1: Make Rice Krispies marshmallow candy according to box. Pat mixture onto cookie sheet to cool. hint: use a spray butter or oil like Pam to prevent rice krispies from sticking to fingers. hint hint: do not spray over the floor—can be very slippery!!
step 2: Give kids small chunks and let them roll into balls, different sizes. Stack the balls as to make a snowman. Can also use cookie cutters and let kids make shapes.
step 3: Decorate with candy—suggestions: fruit string for scarf, M&Ms for buttons, choc. chips for eyes, peppermint candy & gum drop for hat, etc. etc.
step 4: Show off your creation & Enjoy!
step 5: Turn over sugar-filled kids to their daddies!!!
Lots of messy fun for everyone!!
