My Big Loser Husband

My hubby is the “Biggest Loser” and I’m so proud! Let me explain…

The guys in my office, inspired by the TV weight loss reality show “The Biggest Loser” gathered together a bet on who could lose the most weight, by percentage, in 3 months.  The opened up the contest to family & friends of employees so that could have more money in the pot.  You see, you had to pay $100 to weigh-in for the winner takes all competition.

Do you know my husband? Competition is his middle name.

Being pregnant certainly did not help his cause but Matt was strict and was disciplined.  He ate high protein, low sugar and counted calories.  Nothing we don’t all know we should do but he actually did it!  Now, almost as much as he loves a good competition he loves food. So it was tough, but he needed to do it.  Even I admit, he got a little too extreme but his eyes were on the prize: a flat screen TV for his man room.  Also, the thought of Billy Jefcoat beating him was a good motivator too!

So they guys all weighed in…

and 3 months later, weighed out…

With a total weight loss of 59 lbs (24+%) Matt won!!

The first thing he wanted to do after he got his money—go to McDonald’s!!  Actually, he had some stiff competition. While most fell off the wagon pretty soon, there was a few that really gave him a run for his money. Congrats to all the guys-ya’ll look great!

Everyone has been telling him they don’t recognize him and that he looks like a little kid.  I’m proud of his determination but gotta tell you—listening to him report the scale every morning as he continued to lose (while my preggo self is gaining) was a little much. I did get to do some shopping for him out of this since his pants were literally hanging off him, strapped up by his  belt.

Matt even made the cover of our company newsletter:

Congratulations Matt!!  I’m so proud of you!

Ready for the Lake

image

This past weekend Matt, Campbell and I snuck away to the lake for a little one-on-one family time.  It was still too cool to get in the water but it was nice to just get away and have some quiet time.

image Saturday morning we got up really early and played on the beach.

Saturday afternoon, we went to a new local gourmet market, Catherine’s, and got steaks and lobster.  When we got home Matt said “I am not really sure how to cook lobster.”  Well, they were on sale so I guess we got excited about the thought of them before figuring out what to do with them.  He put them on the grill with lots of butter and they were DELICIOUS!  Even Campbell ate it.

She loves steak (and now lobster!) so she is not going to be a cheap date.  Which is fine with her daddy & me!

We had a really good weekend together and can’t wait until the weather warms up  so we can really jump in and have a good time swimming, boating & riding the Sea Doos. I can tell Campbell is going to super fun this year at the lake!image

Sid & Burr’s Wedding

Matt’s aunt Sid got married March 14.  Sid is Tynes’ sister (Matt’s dad or “Papa Q”) and was a lovely bride.   We are so excited for her. This was Campbell’s first wedding to attend and she did pretty good.  She slept through the ceremony and then ate really well at the brunch and practiced her “party girl manners” as Clairee says.

image The beautiful bride!  Campbell was a little confused that Sid wasn’t wearing a big white dress but decided she looked like Cinderella in her pretty blue. Sid looked so beautiful!

imageThe beautiful food table arrangement at the brunch reception at MBCC.  The centerpieces were a mixture of fruit (limes, green apples & grapes) with beautiful flowers, greenery and dogwood branches. I loved it!

image A sweet picture of daughter and dad.  Matt was showing Campbell the golf course and trying to keep her entertained before she dig into the food!

image Campbell’s favorite meal is breakfast and the selection was yum!

It’s A…

GIRL!!

I had my 20 wk doc appt yesterday and the ultrasound confirms it, another little girl for the Bakers!!  She is healthy and right on target for a July 29 due date.  We had a great ultrasound image-she was really moving good and already “talking” in the womb.

Campbell is excited to have a baby sister, there will be exactly 3 yrs difference. No name to report yet-still working on that one. We are excited and wanted to share the good news. Pink is here to stay!

Disney: Day #6

Our last day!!  We only had the morning so we went to Downtown Disney to play in the shops and get souvenirs& gifts to bring back home.  We ate lunch at the Rainforest Cafe, which Campbell loved, and then went to the airport.

Disney: Day #5

FEB 25--

Matt & Campbell had another day, at least morning to themselves. They went to Epcot, rode the Nemo ride (she was too little for Soarin’) and walked around. I dont think she was quite ready for Epcot just yet-too much walking and not a lot of rides for her size.

I finished up the conference in the afternoon and was able to catch Matt & Campbell while they were taking a break at the hotel. We went back to the Magic Kingdom to visit Tomorrow Land and hit all our favorites before having to pack up for home.

We ate dinner at the Crystal Palace and lucked upon a Winnie-the-Pooh character dinner. It was so late and were so tired that we were just delirious. We laughed at everything, especially the characters that kept coming around and signing the autograph book over and over!  I guess it was a little late for them too.

Disney: Day #4

FEB 24--

This was the day my conference started and I had to go back into work mode.  Also, my parents left so Matt & Campbell were on their own. I was so sad that I couldn’t be with them and a little worried how Matt would handle our active, potty-training, princess all by himself at Disney.  My parents were so sad they were leaving too, even though we all live in the same town and would be seeing each other again by the end of the week.  I guess none of us were prepared for how special and sentimental these times would be!

While I was at the trade show all day, Matt sent me little texts like “just got off the train” or “waiting to meet Snow White” so that I sorta knew what they were up to.   They went back to Magic Kingdom and did a lot of meet & greets and rode Goofy’s Barnstormer (she loved it), Snow White’s Scary Ride (she hated it) and the teacups over and over. Mostly it was a Princess day-lucky daddy!!
