Two Weeks Old

I can’t believe we’ve been home with Sara Gray for two weeks! I’m already saying it….they grow up so fast!  We are all still getting adjusted to being at home with a newborn and of course Sara Gray is trying to figure out her own little schedule and communicate what she needs but so far everything has been going very well.  We know all of the typical newborn things are to be expected and are worth the long nights and in spite of some of those few not-so-fun moments, we feel we’ve been blessed with a really good baby!

Also,  I’ve had both my girls all day, all week (and 1/2) that we’ve been home. Campbell is typically in school however her last day was our first full day home last Thursday because Mother’s Day Out took a break between summer and fall sessions.  A full 10 day break!  When we got home from the hospital and I saw that reminder letter in her lunch box I thought “could this be any worse timing?”  But it actually was a blessing in disguise. It gave us all time to get used to the baby while sharing time and attention.  Campbell definitely had some sad moments and thankfully my mom was able to take her home and shower with good one on one attention but eventually I really missed Campbell and looked forward to doing some big girl things with her rather than just trying to keep her at bay around the baby.  Also, there has been a widespread case of flu in various forms (yes, including swine!) around town that a tournament ball team all brought back and several of our friends and their families have been exposed.  So I am very thankful that Campbell was not in school while the outbreak was going on so that she wasn’t exposed and/or brought it home.

On the way home from the hospital-she slept the entire way! So far, she has been very good in her car seat but of course she’s usually asleep.

The Big Sister, aka “The Bride”.  Campbell got this dress for her birthday and has worn it every day. She is dancing with Ariel the Mermaid Bride. Dressing up has been something new and fun that we can do together when we want to forget about the new baby or just spend some big girl time together.

 …but don’t worry, the Bride still visits her baby sister, too.

Jamie & Judy Golden came to see Sara Gray & do some wedding planning. Jamie & my brother Newton are getting married in September!  They were so thoughtful to bring gifts for Campbell too. She got a little scrapbook and stickers so she can put together her own pictures and memories of her baby sister-great idea!

Some touch & go feeding in the beginning has led to some pump & go. I was a little frustrated about it at first but have found one benefit is Dad (and Campbell too) can help out. Sara Gray seems to not care who or what the source is as long as she is fed.

Matt has introduced Sara Gray to his iTouch.  He has all kinds of applications like a rattle, waterfalls, tickle baby, etc that he plays for her.  She loves it!  Thank goodness for his techno-geekness.  It kept him amused in the hospital and Sara Gray at times too.

Honey gave Campbell her first wash down so of course when it came time Sara Gray she was ready with loving hands!

 

Holly Pugh brought over a delicious home-cooked & healthy meal for us one night and got to spend some time with the girls. Thank you Holly!!

More big girl time with Campbell!  She found some of my old velcro rollers and loves playing beauty shop so I rolled up her hair.  It didn’t last very long-not enough for any curls.  You can’t really make a mess when they are in your hair and not all over the bed or floor and that, of course, is way more fun!

Sleeping peacefully. Sara Gray is a great sleeper. If she is fed and dry she is snoozing for the most part (isn’t that the way its supposed to be?)

Jennifer Senn, another great friend and a great cook graced us with a wonderful dinner and visit. Thanks Jen!! 

We’ve been blessed with lots of wonderful food from so many loving friends so we don’t have to worry about grocery shopping and cooking. My friend Kristy organized a schedule of dinners in lieu of a baby shower and it has been the BEST gift!!  I have been so surprised by how many people have thought to bring us food or drop off a gift or just come by to share in the joy of a newborn and give me a little social time too. I had anticipated the baby #2 lack of attention so its been really amazing. I wasn’t very good about getting pictures of everyone that came by but Thank you, thank you to everyone!!
